June 15 Arrives with A Flourish in Iowa

It marks the beginning of direct contact between colleges and prep prospects, according to NCAA rules. Student-athletes find out where they stand with programs on the next level, and the schools learn how much interest the players have in them.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Iowa's 2028 Class is a good one. It's strong at the top and boasts depth. Colleges are springing into action evaluating the talent at camps. Here's a rundown of what we've been able to run down to date:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='560368' first='Elle' last='Hatlevig'], OH, Norwalk/Iowa Premier: </strong>The bouncy and powerful outside hitter from Norwalk and Iowa Premier has been a busy camper this month (and we're only half way through it!). She started out at Iowa State on June 4 and hit up the Prep Dig Gauntlet two days later. She left that event a day early to get to UCLA for a two-day visit, which led into stops at Creighton, Kansas State, Michigan State and Michigan. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Prep Dig's top-ranked player in 2028 is going to have great options at the end of the day. It will be fun following where she ends up.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='573313' first='Deviryn' last='McCarty'], DS/L/OH, MOC-Floyd Valley/Karos: </strong>The No. 2 junior in Iowa according to the Prep Dig rankings is also one of its most unique. McCarty likely best fits in the back row on the next level, but her explosiveness and athleticism make her an effective pin. She's bounced back nicely this club season with Kairos after an injury cost her the 2025 campaign at MOC-Floyd Valley. College coaches have stayed engaged. She's camped with Arizona State, Kansas State and Kansas this month. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='545971' first='Avery' last='Cordes'], RS/OH/MH, Waukee Northwest/Iowa Premier: </strong>Cordes provides college coaches with an opportunity to pick up a prospect capable of impacting matches at any of the three front-row spots. At the high school and club level, she can get the job done in the back row, too. The Waukee Northwest and Iowa Premier standout has been to Drake, Duke, Iowa State, Omaha and Marquette. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='545946' first='Addison' last='Waldorf'], S, Humboldt/Iowa Premier: </strong>The top-ranked setter in the state has the attention of programs at the next level. The Humboldt and Iowa Premier floor leader attended camps at Iowa State, Creighton, Colorado and South Dakota this month. A bump into even more interest is likely to arise when she gets into the Open Division at nationals.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em>(Editor's Note - Shortly after this story published, Waldorf verbally committed to Northern Iowa.) </em></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='516002' first='Julia' last='Schlarbaum'], OH, Clear Creek Amana/Iowa United: </strong>I've seen college coaches roaming around Schlarbaum's court when scouting her this club campaign. It's led to them wanting a closer look. She kicked off her tour with a Drake camp on May 28. Schlarbaum stopped at NC State, Iowa State, the Gauntlet, Creighton and Utah State so far this month. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='730419' first='Hailey' last='Wiederin'], OH/RS, Ankeny/Iowa Premier: </strong>Another cog in the Iowa Premier machine, Wierderin has been on the college radar for awhile thanks in part to an eye-opening season with Ankeny last fall. This month, she's stopped at Drake, Grand Canyon, South Dakota and Colorado. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em>(Editor's Note - Several hours after this story published, Wiederin verbally committed to Northern Iowa.)</em></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='702737' first='Alena' last='Schaack'], MH/OH, Woodward-Granger/Iowa Premier: </strong>Schaack can get overshadowed by the star power on Iowa Premier, but the Woodward-Granger junior may also stake a claim to being a prospect colleges find appealing. During the last few weeks or so, Drake, Iowa State, Northwestern, Omaha, Belmont and North Texas have played host to Schaack at camps.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='742600' first='Piper' last='Hodge'], DS/L, Assumption/Iowa Select: </strong>Hodge has enjoyed a strong season with Iowa Select after helping Assumption win the Class 3A state title in the fall. She camped at Notre Dame this week.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='694203' first='Belle' last='Cotton'], OH, Assumption/Iowa Select: </strong>Like her prep and club teammate Hodge, Cotton impacts the action that leads to success in the form of a state championship and USAV nationals' bid. Drake, Dayton and Ferris State have had her at camps recently. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='730426' first='Hazel' last='Schluckebier'], S, Iowa City High/Rockets:</strong> Schluckebier put herself out there by attending a lot of camps last summer. It's aided the interest level by colleges, leading her to camps stops at Iowa State, Iowa and Missouri so far this month. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='701976' first='Adelyn' last='Stien'], S, Center Point-Urbana/Iowa United: </strong>It's been an active month for Stien on the recruiting trail. She's been to Iowa State twice, and also camped with Iowa and NC State. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='540833' first='Izzie' last='McDonald'], DS/L, Iowa City West/Iowa Premier: </strong>Raising her profile competing with Iowa Premier this club season, McDonald has camped with Drake, Iowa State and Iowa in June. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='533845' first='Taylor' last='Otte'], MH, Iowa City West/Iowa Premier: </strong>McDonald's teammate with Iowa City West and Iowa Premier, Otte also is receiving attention from colleges.
