Johanne Steppling understands that creating opportunities at the net isn’t always about getting the set. Sometimes it’s about making the play possible for someone else. Whether she’s calling for the ball to occupy the opposing middle or willingly becoming a decoy when the situation demands it, she approaches every rally with a team-first mentality. Combined with a fast arm swing and the confidence to attack from multiple positions, she’s developed into a front-row player who constantly looks for ways to influence the offense.
Her growth has come from trusting imperfect situations instead of waiting for perfect ones. Coaches have challenged Steppling to face her setter and remain aggressive even when the pass or set isn’t ideal. That adjustment has expanded the angles she can attack while making her a more consistent scoring option from both the middle and right side. Even on difficult nights, she continues communicating with her setters, supporting teammates from the bench when needed, and finding ways to create advantages that extend beyond her own statistics.
