Last year Paul VI upset Bishop O’Connell in the semi-finals of the WCAC and St. Johns upset Holy Cross. Both those teams had appeared in the finals for the last four years, the Knights winning three championships. Holy Cross ended a streak of appearing in the finals for 13 consecutive seasons.

One of the big transfers for Paul VI is Cairo Turner Cairo Turner 6'2" | MB St. Paul VI Catholic | 2028 State VA coming from conference rival St. Johns. Last year Cairo led the Cadets in blocking while also finishing second in kills. At 6’2″ she provides a force in the middle. She earned second team honors in the WCAC. In the finals last year against Paul VI Cairo contributed 10 kills with three blocks. Now she will put up those numbers for Paul VI. She brings an approach jump of 10’4″ to the floor.

Cairo has committed to UConn.

Cairo is another player on that sweet sixteen top blockers list. Last year Cairo played for St, Johns finishing fourth in the D,C, area in blocks. Her 6’2″ height and 10’4″ approach jump give her that leverage.

Next year Cairo will play for Paul VI. They beat St. Johns in the WCAC championship last year. This could open up her offensive game. With St. Johns her offensive hitting percentage stood at a team best .388. With more consistent passing this could open up more opportunities for her to be engaged in the offense.

Cairo jumped from 18-13 in our class of 2028 rankings.

Cairo was fourth in the D.C. area in blocks when she played for St. Johns last year. She finished with the top hitting percentage at .388 while also placing second in kills. This coming high school season she will move those stats to Paul VI, who beat St. Johns in the WCAC finals last season.

For Metro Cairo is one of their better blockers. She was part of the Metro team that took gold in the Junior Nationals playing in the National Division. She brings an approach jump that reaches 10’4″.

In conference play St. Johns finished in fourth place. The WCAC all conference teams are voted on prior to the playoffs. Cairo made the second team but only one middle, Olivia Boggs Olivia Boggs 6'1" | MB Bishop O'Connell | 2027 State VA made the first team.

Cairo will play with Metro in Open this year.
