Expert Analysis

Normally players are not ranked as high when they play a year down. Many times evaluators fail to look at the circumstances, i.e. the player is young for her grade. For Emerson the circumstances are that the top two players in the class of 2028 play the same position as her. If she wanted to start for the Metro 16 team she would be forced to move to right side.
This has not impacted Emerson with respect to her college commitment. She has committed to Houston.
Last year Emme made the WCAC first team while two players who appear on older Metro teams made the second team. In addition, she led Holy Cross in kills. Holy Cross stood out as one of the top high schools in the DMV area, finishing number five in the Prep Dig top 25.
Emme is a six rotation player for both Metro and Holy Cross. She moved from 6 to 3 in the rankings.

is a recent Houston commit. She is a 2028 playing a year down for Metro 14. Some college coaches carry a bias towards those players who play a year down. Their loss is Houston’s gain.
Emerson showed you don’t have to hit the ball hard to make it hit the floor. In their first set against Synergy Force she delivered back to back roll shots to give Metro a 24-22 lead. Needless to say, the Synergy coach was livid.
When Synergy pulled to within one Emerson got the set again. Instead of a roll shot she swung away. The ball looked like it was going out but Synergy tried to play it and it went off a player’s hands to fly further out of bounds. That proved critical after Metro lost the second set 22-25 but pulled out the third set 15-8.
