That was not the case for the club's 15-1 Elite team this past weekend. It was at the RecPlex in West Des Moines competing with the rest of the state's best for the five bids available to this summer's national tournament in Indianapolis.

Top-seeded United took care of business in its return to regionals. A 25-22, 25-18 victory against Six Pack in the championship match earned it a National Division bid at USAV Nationals. Six Pack was awarded an American Division bid.

[program_tooltip program_id='429065' first='Club' last='Iowa Juniors'] (CIA) Black also picked up an American Division bid with a win against Rockets 15R in the third-place match. The Rockets grabbed a Freedom Division bid, which also went to Roots Volleyball Academy (RVA) 15U Gladden, winners of the fifth-place match.

United won 14 of 15 sets played this weekend. CIA took the first set of its semifinal match against United, 25-18, before the champs came roaring back.

Assistant coaches from Iowa State, Northern Iowa and Drake were glued to the United court throughout he weekend. Setter [player_tooltip player_id='754551' first='Zane' last='Ehler'], playing with a foot injury, put on show for them. The Tipton freshman took over matches with a her broad base of skills.

[player_tooltip player_id='754657' first='Cyan' last='Blommer'] stood out through six rotations for the champions. Her outside attack was second to none this weekend, and she ended points from the 10-foot line, too. When she rotated off the pin, United brought in another hammer in [player_tooltip player_id='754537' first='Amelia' last='Guinn'].

The dynamic, two-way middle duo of [player_tooltip player_id='750513' first='Caylee' last='Jensen'] and [player_tooltip player_id='697463' first='Audrey' last='Small'] dominated the action throughout the weekend, ending points and squelching opposing attacks. [player_tooltip player_id='893053' first='Makinley' last='Galvan'] and [player_tooltip player_id='959482' first='AJ' last='Magers'] provided punch on the right side of the net, and Jaeci Leffel, [player_tooltip player_id='958943' first='Avery' last='Stewart'] and [player_tooltip player_id='779198' first='Emersyn' last='Bucheit'] put together a sound performance in the back row with Leffel also chipping in at setter.

Six Pack rolled through the tournament until losing to United in the title match. The Cedar Valley based club won its first six matches by sweep thanks to strong play by members throughout the roster.

The intimidating combination of [player_tooltip player_id='887022' first='Quinn' last='Sweeney'] and [player_tooltip player_id='781517' first='Hadassah' last='Smith'] took a backseat to no one when he came to 1-2 punches in the middle of the net. They were supported by the outstanding play from outside hitters [player_tooltip player_id='893087' first='Kate' last='Limbaugh'] and [player_tooltip player_id='889843' first='Paige' last='Davis'], the latter shining through six rotations. Setter [player_tooltip player_id='785394' first='Hannah' last='Buhman'] ran the show wonderfully and contributed to victory in multiple areas.

[player_tooltip player_id='897159' first='Madison' last='Burkhardt'] and [player_tooltip player_id='959503' first='Andie' last='Haun'] were productive from the opposite pin, and [player_tooltip player_id='826318' first='Norah' last='Blanchard'] was solid at setter. Libero [player_tooltip player_id='776054' first='Espyn' last='Decker'] was stellar all weekend, getting back-row support from Isabella Sorenson.

As mentioned, CIA was the only team to take a set from United. It received contributions up and down the lineup.

Right-side [player_tooltip player_id='769693' first='Stella' last='Zmolek'] and [player_tooltip player_id='891599' first='Charlee' last='Kirkpatrick'], an outside hitter, impacted matches, offensively and defensively, through six rotations. [player_tooltip player_id='849088' first='Chloe' last='Degroot'] and [player_tooltip player_id='893263' first='Brynlee' last='Asche'] complemented them nicely as two-way factors in the middle of the net. Setter [player_tooltip player_id='762921' first='Taylor' last='Kriegel'] continued her ascent toward what will be a breakout sophomore season at Marion in the fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='754872' first='[player_tooltip player_id='523167' first='Natalie' last='']' last='Rausch'] gave CIA another heavy swing at the outside pin, and [player_tooltip player_id='931424' first='Macie' last='Weber'] did at the same opposite pin. [player_tooltip player_id='782418' first='Claire' last='Scherbring'] and [player_tooltip player_id='959452' first='Morgan' last='Adams'] turned around opposing attacks from the back row.

After dropping its first set of the weekend, the Rockets won 10 in a row before falling to Six Pack in the semifinals. It then took CIA to three sets in the third-place match.

Outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='759977' first='Abbey' last='Kirk'] played really well through six rotations for the Rockets. [player_tooltip player_id='789484' first='Avrielle' last='Ohda'] made sure opponents received no rest when she lined up at the pin. Middles [player_tooltip player_id='890305' first='Johanna' last='Shaffer'] and [player_tooltip player_id='917914' first='Maleah' last='Wedo'], along with right sides [player_tooltip player_id='931274' first='Emerson' last='Ehrke'] and [player_tooltip player_id='760983' first='Finley' last='Batchelder'], won a lot of their matchups at the net.

[player_tooltip player_id='782157' first='Maggie' last='Jensen'] and [player_tooltip player_id='780596' first='Audrey' last='Howe'] enjoyed a consistently good weekend in the back row. The same could be said for the setter duo of [player_tooltip player_id='917911' first='Kaylin' last='Davis'] and [player_tooltip player_id='889863' first='Ainsley' last='Conrad'].

RVA 15U Gladden earned respect as a team that kept fighting throughout the weekend. It lost its first match and two of its first three before rallying for its Nationals' bid.

Six-rotation outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='768896' first='Izabella' last='Skinner'] was a big reason RVA competed at a high level. [player_tooltip player_id='959464' first='Jamison' last='Steinkamp'] provided power on the right side, and [player_tooltip player_id='945354' first='Addison' last='Schultz'] stood tall in the middle. [player_tooltip player_id='959468' first='Harper' last='Markway'] ran a smooth operation as the setter, and libero [player_tooltip player_id='959470' first='Gabby' last='Burds'] held up well in the back row.
