The last hurrah arrives for the class of 2025. The USAV National championships will be played in Utah this weekend. Below are the 12 teams from the DMV area that will be competing. While the AAU schedules an 18 national championship in Orlando in June most of the players from the top teams begin preparing for college. This makes the AAU tournament very watered down.

Metro

How They Earned Their Bid - Surprisingly, Metro did not earn a bid when playing in their local Chesapeake Regional Bid Championship. They lost to Paramount early in bracket play, eliminating them from a bid. So, they had to battle in the Open Qualifiers to earn a trip to Utah. Fortunately for Metro, the Northeast Qualifier trickled down far enough to allow a seventh place team to earn an open bid.

AES Ranking - Despite not qualifying in the local Chesapeake tournament they still rank number one in the Region and 28 nationally.

Top Player to Watch - [player_tooltip player_id='181303' first='Isabelle' last='Bardin']. The Purdue commit stands 6'3" while setting a 5/1. She stands out for her dominant blocking on the right side as well as her ability to create an offensive presence at the net. During the high school season, she lit up the stat sheets with triple doubles (assists, kills and digs) .

Other Players Ranked in the Top Twenty - setter [player_tooltip player_id='181303' first='Isabelle' last='Bardin'] (Purdue/#2), left side [player_tooltip player_id='181300' first='Alexis' last='Ewing'] (Penn State #3), middle [player_tooltip player_id='181309' first='Brianna' last='Holladay'] (Virginia Tech #7), right side [player_tooltip player_id='181763' first='Jada' last='Aksu'] (Lafayette #9), left side [player_tooltip player_id='235293' first='Destini' last='Pickett'] (American #16), middle [player_tooltip player_id='235284' first='Caitlin' last='Johnson'] (Santa Clara, #20)

Liberty Elite

How They Earned Their Bid - In a rather unexpected development Liberty Elite won the Chesapeake Regional Bid Championship. While playing as a fourth seed they rolled through the tournament, finally defeating [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] in the championship match.

AES Ranking - #3 in the Region and #118 nationally

Top Player to Watch - [player_tooltip player_id='346735' first='Emily' last='Ryder']. The Shepherd, West Virginia commit has a left handed swing built for the right side. Although she stands under 6 feet she is a dominating offensive force. She plays six rotations, generating offense from the back row as well.

Other Players Ranked in the top 115 - right side [player_tooltip player_id='346735' first='Emily' last='Ryder'] (Shepherd #26), middle [player_tooltip player_id='481964' first='Nevaeh' last='Ware'] (Frostburg State # 57), left side [player_tooltip player_id='569805' first='Larissa' last='Blair'] (uncommitted #103), middle [player_tooltip player_id='568893' first='Riley' last='Evans'] (California University of Pennsylvania #107), setter [player_tooltip player_id='346737' first='Chloe' last='Fisher'] (Lehigh #115), class of 2027 left side [player_tooltip player_id='438086' first='Emmeri' last='Bishop'] (uncommitted #20)

Fun Fact - After leading Hedgesville to the West Virginia High School state championship the 6'2" [player_tooltip player_id='438086' first='Emmeri' last='Bishop'] hoped to appear at tryouts to play for her high school basketball team. Circumstances prevented her from trying out. Even after club tryouts concluded Liberty Elite still fell short of a left side hitter. With basketball now out of the picture Emmeri took that spot. Now the class of 2027 rising star will play in the 18 USAV national championships in Utah. [player_tooltip player_id='569805' first='Larissa' last='Blair'] led her Boonsboro high school team to the Maryland state championship. She earned the accolade Washington County volleyball preseason player of the year.

[program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last='']

How They Earned Their Bid - Paramount finished second in the local Chesapeake bid championship to earn an American bid. The Moku O Kaewe Region then reallocated a National bid to [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''].

AES Ranking - They rank second in the Chesapeake Region but 367 nationally.

Top Player to Watch - [player_tooltip player_id='248705' first='Zoe' last='Ryu']. The Bowdoin commit plays a very consistent six rotations. At 6'1" she brings good height to the position with excellent arm extension. Zoe plays with a very high volleyball IQ.

Other Players Ranked in the Top 50 - left side [player_tooltip player_id='248705' first='Zoe' last='Ryu'] (Bowdoin # 12), middle [player_tooltip player_id='235324' first='Rowan' last='Johnson'] (Akron # 19), left side [player_tooltip player_id='235283' first='Racquel' last='Frazier'] (Hampton # 25), middle [player_tooltip player_id='230817' first='Riley' last='Lynch'] (uncommitted #27), Libero [player_tooltip player_id='184604' first='Nia' last='Thomas'] (Hampton # 29), left side [player_tooltip player_id='183589' first='Angelique' last='Desamours'] (uncommitted #30), right side [player_tooltip player_id='181235' first='Sydney' last='Mayfield'] (Northeastern (MA) #44)

Fun Fact - Zoe choosing Bowdoin was an interesting college selection. It is located in Maine and the mascot is the Polar Bear. The reason - an alumnus Robert Perry led the first expedition to the North Pole back in 1913, Also, Hampton, a Division I college currently carries a 60 match losing streak. They just recently recruited [player_tooltip player_id='235283' first='Racquel' last='Frazier'] and [player_tooltip player_id='184604' first='Nia' last='Thomas'] to play for them. It would not surprise me to see that losing streak broken after next year.

After the high school season ended, Caleigh would travel to North Carolina to play libero for Academy. This year she will not take the trip to North Carolina. This will be her first year playing for [program_tooltip program_id='506397' first='River' last='Valley Juniors']. On the roster she lists as a libero.

This is a Division that any team can enter. Metro 18 North, 757 Teal and MOCO Mavericks are three teams playing in this Division. A trio of players worth of getting a look.

[player_tooltip player_id='321678' first='Elaina' last='Murphy'] (Metro North) - A smaller left side, but you will not find too many players who hit the ball harder than her. She ranks number 65 in our class of 2026. She also plays a steady back row with the ability to make an impact with her offensive attacks. For high school her .443 hitting percentage was fourth in the state of Maryland, just behind Gatorade Player of the Year [player_tooltip player_id='235748' first='Ema' last='Djordjevic'].

[player_tooltip player_id='434853' first='Elizabeth' last='Higday'] (MOCO Mavericks) - In her years with Georgetown Day the Mighty Hoppers have carried two excellent setters, Gatorade player of the year Clara Yu and the top setter in the class of 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='292644' first='Caycee' last='Chhum']. While Georgetown Day won the DC state championship the last two years Elizabeth's contributions were minimal. Her enthusiasm certainly pushed players to give their best effort. She does have the ability to jump set, spreads the ball around well while setting for MOCO. She definitely shows the skills that might attract a Division III school, ranking number 70 in our class of 2025. Her younger sister [player_tooltip player_id='490811' first='Ella' last='Higday'] plays libero for MOCO. She ranks at number 180 in our class of 2026.
