The 15 age group has only one Old Dominion team competing in the USAV Junior Nationals in Dallas. That is the talented [program_tooltip program_id='450416' first='East' last='Coast Volleyball Club'] Black that did so well last year. The only club to make the Open play is [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last='']. This is the second in our four previews of the USAV Junior National and the AAU Championships. Next week I'll highlight the 16U.

[program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] (Maureen)

How They Got There - While they may have lost to Metro in the Chesapeake Regional Bid Championship, a fourth place finish in the Far West Qualifier in Reno earned them a bid in the Open Division. That does not appear to be a tournament that was originally on their schedule. They added it after finishing in the top ten in both the Show Me and Northeast Qualifiers yet falling short of earning an open bid. They will tune up at the JVA Summerfest in Ohio prior to their appearance in Dallas.

AES Ranking - [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] (Maureen ranks at number 2 locally while sitting at a lofty number 67 nationally.

Top Player to Watch - While she may lack the higher ranking as some of her other teammates, I like the potential of 6'1"'middle [player_tooltip player_id='744453' first='Megan' last='Elder']. She brings an approach jump over 10 feet with a swing well suited for the middle.

Other Players to Watch - middle [player_tooltip player_id='554770' first='Rujuta' last='Singh'], outside [player_tooltip player_id='569865' first='Eireni' last='Scott'], right side [player_tooltip player_id='550688' first='Sienna' last='Mitchell'], right side [player_tooltip player_id='744456' first='Savannah' last='Parker'], libero [player_tooltip player_id='722541' first='Lily' last='Gurney'], middle [player_tooltip player_id='545727' first='Giuliana' last='Mastrangelo'], middle [player_tooltip player_id='720348' first='Milena' last='Kibret'], setter [player_tooltip player_id='735315' first='Zaire' last='Hewlett'], setter [player_tooltip player_id='749346' first='Ellyn' last='Kim']

Fun Fact -In the championship final of the Virginia Class 6 state championship Langley battled with Chantilly in defending their crown. With Langley up in the fifth set 14-13 it took a kill through the block by frosh [player_tooltip player_id='554770' first='Rujuta' last='Singh'] that gave the Saxons the win. Rujuta, [player_tooltip player_id='569865' first='Eireni' last='Scott'] and [player_tooltip player_id='550688' first='Sienna' last='Mitchell'] were all top performers at last year's frosh showcase.

Metro

How They Got There - They were able to sweep past [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] in tke finals of the Chesapeake Regional Bid Championship. They also beat [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] in the finals of the Mid Atlantic Power League (MAPL) in Hampton. Despite all that success Metro failed to win an Open bid finishing 9th in Sunshine and 7th in the Northeast Qualifiers.

AES Ranking - number 1 regionally and 29th nationally. Only one at large Open bid existed for the 15u. TAV Houston, which ranks 44th nationally snagged that bid.

Top Player to Watch - She was injured earlier in the season so I have yet to see her play this year but the most fun player to watch has got to be [player_tooltip player_id='536727' first='Chika' last='Onukwugha']. She lists at 5'9" but she has wings. When she strikes the ball it hits the floor fast. The other left side [player_tooltip player_id='536719' first='Katherine' last='Mitchell'] at 6'1" may carry the most potential.

Other Players to Watch - right side [player_tooltip player_id='536721' first='Ana' last='Woods'], middle/right side [player_tooltip player_id='612397' first='Eliana' last='Koram'], outside/middle [player_tooltip player_id='721145' first='Claire' last='Tepper'], right side [player_tooltip player_id='536728' first='Lalah' last='Washington'], setter [player_tooltip player_id='536724' first='Ariel' last='Callwood'], right side [player_tooltip player_id='515489' first='Chloe' last='Canetto'], middle [player_tooltip player_id='625593' first='Cairo' last='Turner'], defensive specialist [player_tooltip player_id='612399' first='Riley' last='Ko'] libero [player_tooltip player_id='587878' first='Delaney' last='Malloy'],

Fun Fact - Chika has an older sister Chidinma Onukwugha who plays for John Hopkins. Chidinma lists at 6'2". If Chika can reach that height she would be dangerous. Chidinma also played for Metro, but Metro used her as a middle blocker.

[program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] (Cruz)

How They Got There - They finished third in the Chesapeake Regional Bid Championship. That bumped them up into National when the Bayou Region National spot was reallocated to the Chesapeake Region. They will encounter a tough haul in Dallas. In the Triple Crown they finished 142 out of 148 teams.

AES Ranking - They rank fourth in the Region while their national rank falls to 308.

Top Player to Watch - They have no superstars on this roster. Just a number of steady players. Setter [player_tooltip player_id='630678' first='Iris' last='Jin'] lacks height but she has the hands to lead the offense.

Other Players to Watch - left side [player_tooltip player_id='693144' first='Layla' last='Babiker'], libero [player_tooltip player_id='536734' first='Serena' last='Wong'], setter [player_tooltip player_id='722900' first='Amanda' last='Dadio'], left side [player_tooltip player_id='733269' first='Ava' last='Parker'], right side [player_tooltip player_id='725299' first='Bella' last='Stringfellow'], middle [player_tooltip player_id='725350' first='Leila' last='Bataineh'], defensive specialist [player_tooltip player_id='744471' first='Olivia' last='Harris'],

Fun Fact - In the history of the Chesapeake my guess is that no club has had two teams in the same age group compete at the two highest levels. [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] Maureen will play in Open while [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] Cruz will compete in National.

[program_tooltip program_id='450416' first='East' last='Coast Volleyball Club'] Black

How They Got There - The East Coast Pink actually won the Old Dominion Regional Bid Championship. They upset the Black in the final. When Pink turned down the bid Black upgraded from American to National. Black competed in Open in the Northeast Qualifier and finished 26th out of 32 teams.

AES Ranking - Black ranks second in the Region while listing at 545 nationally.

Top Player to Watch - The 6'2" [player_tooltip player_id='617089' first='India' last='Starr'] played middle for them last year. Now she hits right side and dominates. During her first year of high school she did not get a lot of playing time because Ocean Lakes only carries a varsity team for volleyball. She should win a starting spot next season.

Other Players to Watch - middle [player_tooltip player_id='617109' first='Margaret' last='Manzer'], left side [player_tooltip player_id='746323' first='Isabella' last='Decker'], right side [player_tooltip player_id='617092' first='Summer' last='Hillman'], libero [player_tooltip player_id='617112' first='Ava' last='Davis'], setter [player_tooltip player_id='746327' first='August' last='Bridges'], left side [player_tooltip player_id='746329' first='Emma' last='Piccola']

Fun Fact - Normally, the East Coast Pink would be considered the second team. However, they rank as the top team in the Old Dominion Region. They usually play at the club level while the Black team plays at the Open level. Pink did upset Black in the Old Dominion Regional Bid Championship but it is Black who suits up to play in the Junior Nationals in Dallas.

American Division

Columbia Red

How They Got There - They finished fourth in the Chesapeake Regional Bid Championship. They bumped up from Freedom to American with [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] rising to an Open bid. They played in one National Qualifier, finishing 30th out of 72 teams in the Northeast Qualifier.

AES Ranking - They rank 11th in the Region and 495 nationally.

Top Player to Watch - left side [player_tooltip player_id='623089' first='Emma' last='Golnoski'] started for Good Counsel as a frosh. She is a smaller left side hitter that plays six rotations.

Other Players to Watch - left side [player_tooltip player_id='720419' first='Anna' last='Fiedler']

Maryland Juniors Black

How They Got There - Maryland Juniors finished fifth in the Chesapeake Regional Bid Championship. The Old Dominion Region reallocated one of their bids to Chesapeake. Maryland Juniors played in the Liberty Division in two national qualifiers, finishing 21st out of 123 teams at Sunshine and 9th out of 198 teams in the Northeast Qualifier.

AES Ranking - They rank 4th regionally and 419 nationally.

Top Player to Watch - middles [player_tooltip player_id='545725' first='Abisola' last='Adeyemo'] and [player_tooltip player_id='587884' first='Charlotte' last='Dittmar'] are the muscle of this team. They both play for the same high school Annapolis Area Christian. Charlotte appears to have hit outside for Annapolis. In the two early season tournaments I watched Charlotte did not play for Maryland Juniors Black.

Other Players to Watch - left side [player_tooltip player_id='545726' first='Miley' last='Keyes'], Libero [player_tooltip player_id='588468' first='Bella' last='Chen'], middle [player_tooltip player_id='623092' first='Anwuli' last='Okafor'], middle [player_tooltip player_id='749637' first='Alexis' last='Beasley'],

MVSA Charge

How They Got There - They finished fifth in the Chesapeake Regional Bid Championship but received a Freedom bid after a couple teams moved up. Charge finished a respectable 17th place in the Northeast Qualifier composed of 72 teams.

AES Ranking - 9th in the Region and 226 nationally

Top Player to Watch - Setter [player_tooltip player_id='697424' first='Ellie' last='Silberfeld'] shared setting duties with her older sister [player_tooltip player_id='478768' first='Sofia' last='Silberfeld'] at Walter Johnson. Sofia reached 1,000 assists in her high school career. As a frosh setter last year no reason for Ellie not to have the same goal.

Other Players to Watch - right side [player_tooltip player_id='625586' first='Alana' last='Day'], left side [player_tooltip player_id='772016' first='Molly' last='McWhorter'], left side [player_tooltip player_id='778720' first='Jordyn' last='Goh'], middle [player_tooltip player_id='778696' first='Lailah' last='Rogers']

Virginia Juniors

How They Got There - They finished fifth in the Chesapeake Regional Bid Championship getting a bump up with [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] getting an Open bid. A 9th place finish in the USA Division at the Northeast Qualifier and a third place ranking in the region would indicate they deserve the opportunity to play in Dallas. They did beat MVSA Charge in the Northeast Qualifier as well as at a local Maryland Juniors tournament.

AES Ranking - Third in Region while ranking 273 nationally.

Top Player to Watch - [player_tooltip player_id='587876' first='Ariana' last='White'] lists 6'0" and can bomb the ball from the left side. An athletic player who impressed at the Prep Dig Frosh showcase. She ranks 13 in our class of 2028.

Other Players to Watch - Libero [player_tooltip player_id='558212' first='Violet' last='Zimmitti'], defensive specialist [player_tooltip player_id='536731' first='Rawan' last='Salem'], middle [player_tooltip player_id='728971' first='Mandela' last='Masimini'], middle [player_tooltip player_id='545719' first='Julia' last='Heinzelmann'], setter [player_tooltip player_id='541140' first='Maris' last='Francescon'], utility [player_tooltip player_id='722925' first='Sophia' last='Yung'], defensive specialist [player_tooltip player_id='545721' first='Emelyn' last='Shen'], outside [player_tooltip player_id='545717' first='Ellie' last='Brumback'], left side [player_tooltip player_id='739977' first='Elizabeth' last='Hemberg'] , middle [player_tooltip player_id='523664' first='Reese' last='Roberts'], setter [player_tooltip player_id='699993' first='Ava' last='Zender']

Fun Fact - For Spring Mills High in West Virginia both the 6'2" [player_tooltip player_id='536736' first='Alexis' last='Stephens'] and her older sister Samantha played front row together. Alexis usually played middle while Samantha occupied the right side.
