It's hard to believe we're five weeks into the ride, but here were are.

While teams will decide it on the court, predicting who they will be is a fun exercise, for me, and, hopefully, you. We love rankings!

I'll be lining teams in the state's largest class, 5A, each Monday (or Tuesday) throughout the season. Here's how I see it four weeks into the campaign:

1. Waukee Northwest

The Wolves maintain a stranglehold on the No. 1 ranking this week despite having a few losses on their resume. They once again proved their superiority last Tuesday with a 3-0 CIML win at Ankeny Centennial and an unbeaten run through Saturday's Urbandale tournament with wins against Dallas Center-Grimes and Western Christian. Northwest is 7-0 in the state's top conference and shows little weakness throughout the lineup. [player_tooltip player_id='490013' first='Logan' last='Vogt'], an Iowa State pledge, is enjoying a super senior season with 258 kills (.317), 41.0 blocks and 159 digs in 72 sets. [player_tooltip player_id='493601' first='Piper' last='Ladwig'], [player_tooltip player_id='490011' first='Leah' last='Janulewicz'] and [player_tooltip player_id='545971' first='Avery' last='Cordes'] have teamed up to terminate 493 kills. [player_tooltip player_id='555820' first='London' last='Taylor'] has picked up 254 digs, while [player_tooltip player_id='812248' first='Cassidy' last='Danburg'] has a team-best 83.0 blocks to go with 84 kills (.320).

2. Ankeny

The Hawks remain at No. 2 despite having six losses on the ledger. They registered a 3-1 CIML win at Dowling Catholic in their only action of last week. It was their second triumph against the Maroons this year. Ankeny owns victories against Liberty, Pleasant Valley, Dowling, Assumption, Center Point-Urbana, Mount Vernon and other top teams as well. [player_tooltip player_id='730419' first='Hailey' last='Wiederin'] has racked up 319 kills (.383) in 75 sets, while [player_tooltip player_id='555797' first='Marlee' last='Ellison'] has 225 (.286). [player_tooltip player_id='732859' first='Elle' last='Isaacson'], [player_tooltip player_id='992194' first='Quinn' last='Roush'] and [player_tooltip player_id='490016' first='Raquel' last='Risk'] have combined for 340 kills, and [player_tooltip player_id='1046923' first='Kellen' last='Roush'] has 604 assists. [player_tooltip player_id='758787' first='Katelyn' last='Mescher'] picked up 260 digs.

3. Dowling Catholic

Dowling Catholic sticks at No. 3 this week despite the CIML loss against Ankeny and another to Dike-New Hartford at the East-West Showdown, where the Maroons swept Iowa City West, Pleasant Valley and Liberty. They're 4-2 in the state's top league with the other loss being a 3-2 thriller against Waukee Northwest. [player_tooltip player_id='730098' first='Caroline' last='Crane'] has paced a balanced Dowling attack with 234 kills (.468) in 70 sets. [player_tooltip player_id='500340' first='Kaylie' last='Klein'], [player_tooltip player_id='763850' first='Gianna' last='Stanfel'] and [player_tooltip player_id='845755' first='Kennedy' last='Klein'] have combined for 446 kills. Katie Muller has piled up 63.0 blocks to go with 77 kills (.265), freshman [player_tooltip player_id='790687' first='Hailey' last='Reinders'] has 58.0 blocks and 43 kills, and Audree Gerke has 257 digs.

4. Dallas Center-Grimes

Dallas Center-Grimes (29-1) checks in fourth again this week. The Mustangs suffered their first setback of the season, a 2-1 decision against Waukee Northwest at Saturday's Urbandale tournament, where they did beat Western Christian. They have a huge Little Hawk Conference match at Norwalk on Tuesday. [player_tooltip player_id='991341' first='Madison' last='Messerly']'s 209 kills (.247) in 70 sets have led the team, while [player_tooltip player_id='394331' first='Maggie' last='Leifker'] was right behind her with 190 (.483). [player_tooltip player_id='730390' first='Ava' last='Smid'] and [player_tooltip player_id='443085' first='Avery' last='Edgington'] together have added 285 kills. [player_tooltip player_id='493973' first='Gwen' last='Farley'] has collected 668 assists, 189 digs and 58 kills. [player_tooltip player_id='729146' first='Anna' last='Jackson'] had 235 digs.

5. Iowa City West

The fifth spot in the rankings kicks off a tier of teams capable of claiming this spot by season's end. Iowa City West holds onto it for a fourth week in a row after recording MVC sweeps of Cedar Rapids Jefferson and Iowa City High last week, and then adding wins against Johnston, Waukee and Valley at the East-West Showdown, where it also lost 2-1 to Dowling. The Trojans own wins against Liberty, Assumption, Dowling, Cedar Falls and Bettendorf. [player_tooltip player_id='754657' first='Cyan' last='Blommer'] owns the team lead in kills at 197 (.248) with [player_tooltip player_id='360642' first='Sophia' last='Austen'] close behind at 194 (.312) in 59 sets. That duo has combined for 309 digs as well. [player_tooltip player_id='610472' first='Josie' last='Austen'] and [player_tooltip player_id='533845' first='Taylor' last='Otte'] have teamed up for 268 kills. [player_tooltip player_id='555736' first='Lila' last='Eastvold'] has 582 assists and [player_tooltip player_id='540833' first='Izzie' last='McDonald'] has picked up 235 digs.

6.
