There were six DMV teams who played in the Boston Qualifiers. Three made it to the gold bracket. While all three did not earn a bid they came quite close, two of the team falling just one win short.

16 Open - [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] Falls Short

[player_tooltip player_id='541140' first='Maris' last='Francescon']

[program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] won their first five matches. The fifth match went three sets when they beat Smash 15-25, 25-12, 15-11. The sixth set they took their first loss against HPSTL Royal 11-25, 25-20 and 11-15.

Finishing second in their pool put them in a three team gold pool as the third seed against Dallas Skyline and KC Power. Three other three team pools were also generated. The winners of each pool would earn a bid to play a single elimination bracket round for first and second. Unfortunately for [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] they were swept in both matches. This dropped them to a ninth place finish, eliminating them from a bid.

Dallas Skyline was a tough draw having finished second in the 16 Under Triple Crown. KC Power also did well in the Triple Crown, finishing in 19th place. Of the four teams who earned a bid only Circle City did not play in the Triple Crown. The other three teams finished 65th or higher while Paramount finished 99th.

[program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] has the talent level to achieve an Open bid. As more teams earn bids this whittles down some of the stronger teams enhancing their chances in a future qualifier. With two strong outsides in [player_tooltip player_id='755134' first='Ava' last='Ewald'] and [player_tooltip player_id='554770' first='Rujuta' last='Singh'] they bring the offense. Rujuta is a bit undersized but she brings a strong volleyball IQ and six rotation play to the court. [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] rotates three setters in a 6/2 with [player_tooltip player_id='438046' first='Anna' last='Dierks'], [player_tooltip player_id='541140' first='Maris' last='Francescon'] and [player_tooltip player_id='735315' first='Zaire' last='Hewlett'] sharing time. At some point they may settle on a consistent duo. [player_tooltip player_id='569865' first='Eireni' last='Scott'], [player_tooltip player_id='536728' first='Lalah' last='Washington'] and [player_tooltip player_id='744458' first='Arielle' last='Stopak'] can hit right side for the setters, or they can mix and match at left side depending on need.

The middles have length with [player_tooltip player_id='744453' first='Megan' last='Elder'] and [player_tooltip player_id='545727' first='Giuliana' last='Mastrangelo']. Love the libero play of [player_tooltip player_id='722541' first='Lily' last='Gurney']. For the most part she is an accurate passer who communicates well and plays solid defense with her quickness on the floor. [player_tooltip player_id='588468' first='Bella' last='Chen'] is another strong option for libero or defensive specialist.

15 Open - [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] Falls One Win Short of a Bid

[player_tooltip player_id='752431' first='Kayla' last='Chang']

[program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] did about as well as you could expect. They were perfect in pool play finishing 3-0 on both days. During that time they lost only one set, the opener against Northeast 23-25. They bounced back to win the next two sets 25-19, 15-13.

They were placed in a three team pool as the second seed with the winner of the pool advancing to a gold bracket. All four teams in the gold bracket would earn a bid. [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] won their first match against AP Adidas 25-21, 25-22. The last match of the pool would pit them against SC Rockstar, a team that finished 37th at Triple Crown, the same finish as Paramount. The winner of that match would earn a bid by advancing to the four team playoff. SC Rockstar swept [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] 25-21, 25-17.

The winner of the tournament Dallas Skyline finished third in Triple Crown. Three of the four clubs who earned bids finished 37th or higher in Triple Crown. The second place team DNVB Red (Drive Nation) finished 43rd in Triple Crown.

This 15 team has loads of talent with [player_tooltip player_id='747560' first='Elliot' last='Dorgan'] hitting left side and [player_tooltip player_id='747458' first='Angelie' last='Rose Carrasco'] playing as the libero. Both are ranked in the top ten in the DMV class of 2029. Angelie is the top ranked libero in the class. [player_tooltip player_id='779106' first='Isabella' last='Jeantel'] has been playing right side, but she can also play middle or left side. With an approach jump that falls just short of 10'3" her athletic ability is still ahead of her physical skills. As she gains more experience her skill level should hit the roof.

[player_tooltip player_id='752431' first='Kayla' last='Chang'] and [player_tooltip player_id='747031' first='Braylin' last='Coacher'] are excellent seters. Both set 5/1s for their high school teams. They also carry great length in the lineup with Izzy, Elliot, [player_tooltip player_id='763151' first='Sydney' last='Lewis'],[player_tooltip player_id='893947' first='Annika' last='Warren'], [player_tooltip player_id='787919' first='Charlotte' last='Booth'] and the two twins [player_tooltip player_id='755129' first='Lillian' last='Battcock'] and [player_tooltip player_id='755132' first='Abigail' last='Battcock'] all standing over six foot. You can usually tell the twins apart by the color of their shoes.

14 Open - Metro Falls Just Short of Earning a Bid

[player_tooltip player_id='777558' first='Kayla' last='R Tutoni']

This Metro team shows a lot of promise after dominating at a number of local tournaments. Like the [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] 15 team they fell one win short of earning a bid.

In the first round of pool play they dominated their opponents, not giving up more than 16 points. This resulted in a crossover match with Dallas Skyline. Dallas Skyline also won the 14U at Triple Crown. Metro beat Dallas Skyline in the first set 25-21, but lost the next two 25-21 and 15-12. Dallas Skyline would go on to win the tournament with Metro handing them their only set loss.

Metro again dominated their opponents in the next round of pool play, not allowing their opponents more than 19 points. This qualified them for a gold bracket pool with MAVS Elite and Rockwood Thunder Elite. MAVS Elite finished 17th in Triple Crown while Rockwood Thunder finished 56th. Not an easy pool to survive.

Metro beat Rockwood Thunder in three 25-18, 21-25 and 15-9. The last match of the day would determine bid qualification. Metro lost to MAVS Elite 25-13, 25-20. Because MAVS had previously qualified it appears only three teams earned bids in the Qualifier that had four bids available. The three bid winners Dallas Skyline, Wave Juliana and Madfrog Green all finished in the top ten in the Triple Crown.

Metro is led by Capitol Hill Classic MVP[player_tooltip player_id='753097' first='Nadia' last='Wooten'] and her 10'4" approach jump as a 14 year old. That alone will give her some looks. They also have the best attacker from the Capitol Hill Classic [player_tooltip player_id='941763' first='Sai' last='Herndon-Brown'] and two solid libero candidates in [player_tooltip player_id='888626' first='Blake' last='Ahn'] and [player_tooltip player_id='777558' first='Kayla' last='R Tutoni']. This is a talented group that will be heard from again.

Results of CHRVA Regional Championships

The CHRVA Regional Championships for the 18s were held on Sunday. There were four bids available. They battled their way through a number of gold pools, however just falling short of earning a bid. Sunday, they earned the National Division bid by sweeping all their opponents. They swept past Virginia Juniors in the finals 25-22, 25-17. Virginia Juniors was the only team to accumulate 20 points against them in a set.

Despite losing loads of talented players to early college attendance Metro picked up some players to compete in the 18U. They built their new roster from a number of different clubs. [player_tooltip player_id='716365' first='Skyler' last='Riley'] is a class of 2027 that came from Virginia Juniors. With only one returning left side, she was a key offensive piece for this team. Another left side [player_tooltip player_id='249330' first='Charlotte' last='Arrington'] was just one of a number of players they snagged from [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last='']. Libero/Defensive specialist [player_tooltip player_id='412055' first='Lilly' last='Kennedy'] and [player_tooltip player_id='493358' first='Kennedy' last='Cummins'] were two more as was right side [player_tooltip player_id='325599' first='Raegan' last='Lentz']. Another right side [player_tooltip player_id='325601' first='Sydnee' last='Peters'] came from MVSA.

Not all the players were new. Returning to the fold were two of their three setters from last year [player_tooltip player_id='238357' first='Claire' last='Mo'] and [player_tooltip player_id='325600' first='Taryn' last='Su']. They also brought back their middles [player_tooltip player_id='333652' first='Gabriella' last='Vizek'], [player_tooltip player_id='321676' first='Gabrielle' last='Wigglesworth'] and [player_tooltip player_id='321679' first='Simone' last='Assasie']. [player_tooltip player_id='220923' first='Soleil' last='Rancourt'] was the sole pin hitter returning while libero [player_tooltip player_id='238358' first='Evie' last='Huang'] came back from an injury that prevented her from playing last year.

Despite this wide recipe of new players mixed into the roster Metro continues to be the top 18 team in the Chesapeake Region.

American Division Winner - Virginia Juniors

[player_tooltip player_id='238851' first='Piper' last='Xeller']

Virginia Juniors also swept past their opponents, including Virginia Elite in the semi-finals 25-14, 25-15. This created a Metro/Virginia Juniors championship match that Metro won 25-22, 25-17. Virginia Juniors had only played in one qualifier up to this point, finishing in ninth place in the Ohio Valley Qualifier out of 24 teams in the USA Division. With their second place finish they will play in the American Division at Junior Nationals. In a couple weeks they will play their last Qualifier, the Northeast Qualifier before heading to the Junior National championships in Reno.

Outside [player_tooltip player_id='238851' first='Piper' last='Xeller'] appears the only Juniors player who has yet to commit. This would allow them to advance to the American Division if either Metro or Virginia Juniors earn a higher bid in a future qualifier.

The two setters for Virginia Elite, [player_tooltip player_id='204152' first='Sofie' last='Ferrell'] (Mary Washington) and [player_tooltip player_id='377335' first='Mackenzie' last='Davis'] (Christopher Newport) have committed. At 5'11" MacKenzie has the height to also play a solid right side. Middles [player_tooltip player_id='472234' first='Tessa' last='Fergusson'] (Tufts) and [player_tooltip player_id='355124' first='Fiona' last='McDermott'] (Colby) as well as left side [player_tooltip player_id='377334' first='Josephine' last='Seekford'] (Queens NC) all list 6'2" but are also committed.

If you are looking for players yet to commit check out two class of 2027s in right side [player_tooltip player_id='443570' first='Lexiana' last='Everetts'] and left side/defensive specialist [player_tooltip player_id='438043' first='Katherine' last='McLaughlin']. Lexiana lists at 6'0" with the ability to provide blocking and offense on the right side, while Katherine can be a smaller outside or play a libero/defensive specialist. She shows tremendous hustle on the court, which deserves a look. From the class of 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='464562' first='Elizabeth' last='Gordon'] can play either middle or right side. She lists at 5'11", finished second on her high school in kills earning her a second team all conference in the Cedar Run District.

[player_tooltip player_id='525341' first='Genevieve' last='Willis'] (adventure in Alaska)

Columbia lost to Virginia Elite for the second time in the tournament. They had lost to them earlier in pool play 25-16, 17-25, 14-16. The only other team they lost to was Metro in the semi-finals. They may have two of the top setters in the DMV area in [player_tooltip player_id='525341' first='Genevieve' last='Willis'] and [player_tooltip player_id='698761' first='Imagine' last='Peltier']. Imagine is one of our more highly ranked class of 2027s at number 13. As a junior she set Howard to the Class 3 Maryland state championships. She has committed to Middle Tennessee State. Genevieve lists at 5'10" and has committed to Alaska-Fairbanks. That has to be an interesting story in itself.

They actually have a team composed of other players not from Alaska, even two players from Hawaii. They play in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) with other teams from Alaska as well as teams from Washington, Oregon and Montana in their conference. Last year they played in a Hawaii/Alaska challenge in Anchorage. Perhaps next year they will play in Hawaii. They finished 24-6 and played in the NCAA West Regional in San Diego against University of Alaska Anchorage and Point Loma. They call themselves the Nanooks. Last year they qualified for their first ever appearance in the NCAA Division II championships. Now I call this an adventure in life.

At 5'10" [player_tooltip player_id='525343' first='Terry' last='Spring'] is a left side who has yet to commit. She ranks at number 152 in our class of 2026.

There were six DMV teams who played in the Boston Qualifiers. Three made it to the gold bracket. While all three did not earn a bid they came quite close, two of the team falling just one win short.
