Since none of the top 50 players from the classes of 2028 and 2029 have committed there exist a greater number of athletes to watch. In addition, coaches from Division I colleges can begin making contact with players from the class of 2028 starting June 15th. No time to waste. Division II and III college coaches have a little more flexibility regarding contacting prospective athletes. Below are some of the younger players showcasing their skills at Volley by the James.

[player_tooltip player_id='569865' first='Eireni' last='Scott'] right side - Eireni ranks number 11 in our class of 2028. This past weekend she was hitting right side. I have no doubt she could also move to the left side. A 5'11" outside hitter with an approach jump already at 9'10". She earned a first team Independent School League (ISL) selection as a sophomore, despite playing for a team who struggled to win matches. My only concern is that if she exclusively plays right side she may not find a lot of opportunity playing back row.

[player_tooltip player_id='554770' first='Rujuta' last='Singh'] left side - Rujuta falls just behind Eireni in the rankings at 13. A big issue with many is she stands 5'8" with an approach jump of 9'4". She and Eireni both won top performer awards at our frosh showcase. What impresses the most about Rujuta is her volleyball IQ. She can do anything on the court, whether it is hitting, playing defense, passing or even setting. Two years ago, as a frosh she blasted the match winning kill to win the state championship for Langley 15-13. Talk about clutch.

[player_tooltip player_id='755134' first='Ava' last='Ewald'] left side - Ava ranks at number 19 based on what I saw of her play with Kettle Run. Last weekend she dominated at the [program_tooltip program_id='511606' first='Vienna' last='Elite'] Open, crushing balls from the back and front row. She lists at 6'1" with an approach jump of 10 feet. Another six rotation player who can do it all. The three setters all seemed to be pretty confident in her hitting ability as she appeared to be the go to person in this offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='536728' first='Lalah' last='Washington'] right side - Lalah ranks at number 22 in our class of 2028. Last year she played for Metro where [player_tooltip player_id='536721' first='Ana' last='Woods'] and her were the primary right sides for a team that took first place in the USAV junior nationals in the National Division. This year she moves to [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last='']. A 6'1" pin hitter who can reach close to 9'10". Another top performer at our frosh showcase

[player_tooltip player_id='744453' first='Megan' last='Elder'] middle - Megan ranks number 23 in our class of 2028. A 6'1" middle with an approach jump of 10'3". That is the highest on the [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] team. It is not often you see a middle with this amount of quickness and athleticism.

Lily Gurney libero/DS - Lily ranks number 30 in our class of 2028. Last weekend she shared the libero role during pool play. When the playoffs began the libero role was hers to play. She brings quickness on defense, good movement and awareness for passing with a swagger that the back court is hers to own. Her serve also rains points for Paramount.

[player_tooltip player_id='541140' first='Maris' last='Francescon'] setter - Maris ranked number 32 in our class of 2028. Another top performer in our frosh showcase she set Paul VI to a WCAC championship and a second place finish in the VISAA state championship. The VISAA voted her to the second team All State. Definitely brings out leadership qualities to the setting position. During the high school season she led the Panthers in assists and serving aces.

[player_tooltip player_id='545727' first='Giuliana' last='Mastrangelo'] middle - Giuliana ranks number 49 in our class of 2028. At 6'3" she brings some intimidating height to the court. Perhaps not as athletic as Megan but she remains a force at the net.

[player_tooltip player_id='438046' first='Anna' last='Dierks'] setter - Anna ranks number 14 in our class of 2027. This high school season she set a 5/1 leading West Springfield to the Virginia Class 6 state championship. That earned her a spot on the Class 6 first team All State. At 5'10 she brings good height to the setting position.

Other Players to Watch - [player_tooltip player_id='735315' first='Zaire' last='Hewlett'] (setter, class of 2027), [player_tooltip player_id='744458' first='Arielle' last='Stopak'] (middle, class of 2027), [player_tooltip player_id='588468' first='Bella' last='Chen'] (libero/DS), [player_tooltip player_id='772028' first='Sofia' last='Gelston'] (Libero/DS)

[program_tooltip program_id='498495' first='Richmond' last='Volleyball Club']

[player_tooltip player_id='536717' first='London' last='Jones'] left side - She ranks at number 12 in our class of 2028. Despite her 5'7" height she can fly with an approach jump hitting 10'2". She has a block touch of 9'9". As the competition rises her height could become an issue, but until then her play is dominate.

[player_tooltip player_id='768375' first='Alexis' last='VerMeer'] left side - Alexis ranks at number 36 in our class of 2028. That ranking came before her performance at the Exposure tour where she showcased her offensive skills by taking home the most valuable player award. She stands 6'1" mixing together strength and athleticism. She also earned a spot on the Virginia Class 1 All State team.

[player_tooltip player_id='464573' first='Blake' last='Crawford'] right side - She ranks at number 16 in our class of 2027. Another smaller hitter at 5'8" but with a left handed swing that stings the ball. She earned a spot on the Virginia Class 4 first team All State.

[program_tooltip program_id='494409' first='Blue' last='Ridge']

[player_tooltip player_id='536736' first='Alexis' last='Stephens'] Middle - Alexis ranks at number 24 in our class of 2028. At 6'2" she currently dominates at the net. She played for Spring Mills in West Virginia. While her older sister got a late start to volleyball Alexis got a much earlier start, following in her shadows. Her sister Samantha, also 6'2" ended up getting a college scholarship to IU-Pennsylvania. Alexis is much more polished in her game.

[player_tooltip player_id='744473' first='Sophie' last='Weir'] Pin - Sophie ranks at number 44 in our class of 2028. A little undersized for an outside at 5'9". She brings a fast arm swing to her game which generates good velocity on the ball. The last time we wrote highly about her was after the Volley by the James tournament was completed. Sophie is available to hit either pin.

Other players to watch: [player_tooltip player_id='830996' first='Catherine' last='Warren'] (outside), [player_tooltip player_id='536738' first='Avery' last='Fauver'] (OH), [player_tooltip player_id='752047' first='Teagan' last='Braun-Duin'] (setter/right side)

[player_tooltip player_id='630678' first='Iris' last='Jin'] Setter - Iris ranks number 34 in our class of 2028. A smaller setter at 5'7" she works a 6'2". She made her 2026 debut last weekend and it was a first place in the silver. Thomas Jefferson used her as their main setter. She led the team in assists and aces. The timing with the quick tempo sets seem to give her no issues.

Other players to watch - Ilana Cunningham (DS/Libero/Setter), [player_tooltip player_id='587036' first='Olivia' last='Black'] (Pin), [player_tooltip player_id='722925' first='Sophia' last='Yung'] (Libero/DS), [player_tooltip player_id='545717' first='Ellie' last='Brumback'] (outside)

Libero

[player_tooltip player_id='536729' first='Katelyn' last='Rolph'] setter - At 6'0" Katelyn brings good height to her position, putting her at number 35 in our class of 2028 rankings. She has won two top performer awards at our Prep Dig showcases (technically, you should only win one) but she deserved them both. She set for Bullis this past season a year after they won their first ISL AA championship. Unfortunately for Katelyn the whole starting lineup for Bullis either graduated or transferred. Needless to say, it was a learning experience.

Other players to Watch - [player_tooltip player_id='623088' first='Irina' last='Padden'] (outside/DS/Libero), [player_tooltip player_id='782196' first='Samantha' last='Green'] (Pin), [player_tooltip player_id='754951' first='Milica' last='Marden'] (DS/Libero/OH, class of 2029)

[program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] - Almost all the players on this roster fill the top 50 so we will only list the top four.

[player_tooltip player_id='747560' first='Elliot' last='Dorgan'] (outside) - Elliot ranks at number 7 in the class of 2029. A 6'0" outside who can put some heat on the ball. As a frosh she led Woodbridge in kills. Her [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] teammate [player_tooltip player_id='747031' first='Braylin' last='Coacher'] set for her. In the games I watched she normally played three rotations.

[player_tooltip player_id='747458' first='Angelie' last='Rose Carrasco'] (Libero/DS) - Rosie slides in at number 9 in our class of 2029 but is the top rated libero. If you look in the dictionary to find the definition of libero you might see her picture. She never stops talking, screaming out words of encouragement, telling her back row mates that she has all the seams, hustles all over the court. Perhaps the perfect libero if there ever is one.

[player_tooltip player_id='763151' first='Sydney' last='Lewis'] (middle) - She falls in at number 13 in our class of 2029 rankings. A 6'1" middle who made the roster for the Class 5 champions Riverside but did not see a lot of playing time. Another player won a top performer award at our Prep Dig frosh showcase. Next year Sydney should grab a starting role in the middle.

[player_tooltip player_id='779106' first='Isabella' last='Jeantel'] (left side/middle) - While she ranks number 15 in our class of 2029 that is selling her short. When I watched her play middle for Libero in a non-open match she dominated the court. She had height and she brought power to the middle. It appears she is converting to the outside. She lists at 6'0" with an approach jump slightly over 10'3". Mark my word, she could be the next superstar in this class not playing for Metro.

Others players to watch - [player_tooltip player_id='747031' first='Braylin' last='Coacher'] (setter), [player_tooltip player_id='893947' first='Annika' last='Warren'] (Middle), [player_tooltip player_id='787919' first='Charlotte' last='Booth'] (Pin), [player_tooltip player_id='755129' first='Lillian' last='Battcock'] (middle/right side), [player_tooltip player_id='755132' first='Abigail' last='Battcock'] (right side/middle), [player_tooltip player_id='763157' first='Olivia' last='Li'] (DS/Libero), [player_tooltip player_id='752431' first='Kayla' last='Chang'] (setter), [player_tooltip player_id='756340' first='Erin' last='Moir'] (Pin)

Maryland Juniors

[player_tooltip player_id='754613' first='Charlotte' last='Aus']

[player_tooltip player_id='748487' first='Sierra' last='Thomas'] outside - One of the few players from the Maryland Juniors 14 who did not switch over to Metro. She ranks number three in our class of 2029. As a frosh she finished second on the team in kills, despite an early season ankle injury that forced her to miss a couple weeks of the season. At 6'0" she can fly over the block with her kills. Still needs to improve her back row play to become a consistent 6 rotation player.

[player_tooltip player_id='753079' first='Reagan' last='Barrett'] right side - Another survivor of the Maryland Juniors 14 team, she ranks number 43 in our class of 2028. Normally a 6'1" right side she also showed that she can hammer the ball pretty hard from the left side while playing for her high school.

Other players to Watch - [player_tooltip player_id='754613' first='Charlotte' last='Aus'] (Libero/DS, class of 2028), [player_tooltip player_id='783302' first='Sophie' last='Lorgea'] (Middle)

Bay Area Volleyball Academy (BAVA)

[player_tooltip player_id='766895' first='Neely' last='Olish'] setter/right side - She earned a ranking at number 18 in our class of 2029 as a middle/right side. She made the varsity for the Class 4 champion Broadneck team but did not get a lot of playing time. After [player_tooltip player_id='762823' first='Brie' last='Mouton'] left BAVA for Metro there was a need for a setter. The 6'1" Neely took the call. At her first tournament she set a 5/1. She is still rough around the edges, but if she has success this could be interesting.

[player_tooltip player_id='781700' first='Gianna' last='Bonnett'] Libero/DS - She ranks number 27 in our class of 2029 despite being unable to win a libero role. That does not mean her back row play is weak. On the contrary. It is just unfortunate for her that she plays with some pretty top notch liberos. On defense she shows great hustle resulting in earning two top performer awards at Prep Dig showcases. As a frosh she made the varsity for Annapolis Area Christian, which could be the top high school in Maryland next year.

[player_tooltip player_id='902360' first='A'vielle' last='Lewis'] left side - A'vielle ranks number 38 in our class of 2029. When I first saw her play for BAVA she showed great athleticism but her rawness provided too much inconsistency. She seemed to put it together at the Prep Dig Exposure tour winning a top performer award. She also led her high school team in kills as they reached the semi-finals of the Maryland Class 1 state playoffs.

Other players to watch - [player_tooltip player_id='783298' first='Olivia' last='Wheeler'] (DS/Libero), [player_tooltip player_id='787925' first='Camryn' last='Bedell'] (outside)

[program_tooltip program_id='494409' first='Blue' last='Ridge']

[player_tooltip player_id='749349' first='Avery' last='Curtis'] Middle - Avery ranks at number 20 in our class of 2029. While she plays middle she still gets fed the higher sets, putting them away with force. She made first team in the Northwestern District, though I think they listed her as a junior. She lists at 5'10" allowing her to bring some height to the middle. It appears she also has the athleticism to move outside.

[player_tooltip player_id='749353' first='Brielle' last='Wolf'] outside - Brielle ranks number 29 in our class of 2029. She also lists 5'10" but fires her missiles from the left side. She plays for the powerhouse Musselman in West Virginia, leading the team in kills as a frosh. A six rotation player.

[player_tooltip player_id='878688' first='Mckenna' last='Homans'] Setter/Right Side - McKenna ranks number 35 in our class of 2029. She showed a good swing from the right side in an early Maryland Juniors Open tournament. She also made the first team in the Northwestern District, one of two frosh to make the team, the other being her [program_tooltip program_id='494409' first='Blue' last='Ridge'] teammate [player_tooltip player_id='749349' first='Avery' last='Curtis'].

Other players to Watch - [player_tooltip player_id='877850' first='Kennedi' last='Bower'] (middle/outside), [player_tooltip player_id='749357' first='Ellie' last='Palmer'] (outside),

Virginia Elite

[player_tooltip player_id='763132' first='Raegan' last='Giuliani'] setter - Listed at 5'10 Raegan ranks at number 45 in our class of 2029. She plays for Potomac, as did her sister, but her sister played middle. Not the spot for Raegan. She brings a 9'1" block and 9'4" approach jump to the right side. Despite her 5'10" height she plays a solid defense in the back row.

Other players to watch - [player_tooltip player_id='765187' first='Chelsea' last='Kolas'] (Libero/ds)

[player_tooltip player_id='778444' first='Zari' last='Northam'] outside/middle - Zari just squeaked into the top 50 at 47. At 5'8" she is a bit undersized to play middle. The athleticism exists in her game to move outside. While I have yet to see her play back row it would not surprise me to see her play it well.

Other players to Watch - [player_tooltip player_id='779119' first='Isabelle' last='Thompson'] (Setter), [player_tooltip player_id='779114' first='Lacie' last='Rayford'] (middle), [player_tooltip player_id='541319' first='Gabrielle' last='Rodrigo'] (outside), [player_tooltip player_id='879248' first='Paige' last='Stoll'] (Libero/Defensive Specialist)

18 U - While [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] had no players listed in the players to watch post, that is because they have all committed.
