Club teams change year over year and move up in age levels annually. Therefore, a squad winning its age group two years in a row can be considered a repeat champion.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We had a pair of teams pull that off at Weekend 1 of the Iowa Regional on Saturday and Sunday. Iowa Premier 16-1 won the 16U Division after Iowa Premier 15-1 reigned supreme a year ago. Champion of 16U a year ago, Iowa United 16-1 Elite, claimed this weekend's 17U Division as United 17-1 Elite. Again, both of this year's champions looked a bit different than 2025, but the core of both groups returned. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I pegged PowerPlex 17 Brogean as the favorite to win 17U coming into this weekend. As it did a year ago, United proved me wrong again. It topped Brogean, 25-23, 25-20, in the championship match. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Hats off to group that continues showing that connectivity and execution of the plan is a winning formula. It also has a lot of really good players. Iowa State pledge [player_tooltip player_id='360642' first='Sophia' last='Austen'] wins a lot, a common theme on this team. Premier 16-1 did the same in 16U. Both squads left this weekend's event determined to nail down an Open Division bid in a future qualifiers, but there's comfort in knowing a spot in the second-best division is in hand. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Premier 16-1 played in the Open Division as 15s last year.
