Plenty of Prospects Plowing Through Charm City Classic

With both Metro teams and [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] playing in the Charm City Classic this will be a place to find talent. For the classes of 2028 and 2029 over 60 percent of players ranked in the top 50 will be participating in this event. For the classes of 2026 and 2027 there are still some talented uncommitted players ranked in our top 50.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">18 Open</h2>   Almost all of the top 50 have committed, but there are still a few talented players available.   540 Club Academy   [player_tooltip player_id='333653' first='Elizabeth' last='York'] (Colgan) middle/right side - Ranked at number 27 in our class of 2026 Elizabeth has played both middle and right side. Her strength is playing right side where she is used by her club. Colgan used her at the middle. At 6'3" she brings some height to the front row. For Colgan she led the team in hitting percentage at .291 as well as blocks while finishing third in kills. Colgan reached the finals of the class 6 state championship where they lost to West Springfield in five. Club 540 is currently ranked number one in the Old Dominion Region. She finished second on Paul VI in kills, leading them to a WCAC championship and second place in the VISAA state championship. Her serving lacks consistency but if she finds the court it is tough to receive. A little more work on that during the club season. All three of the top hitters will graduate forcing India to play a key role next year. She does contribute to the blocking department with 36 solo blocks, tied for the second most on the team. She doesn't get a lot of opportunity to serve or play back row. Her .386 hitting percentage was tops on the team while she also finished third in blocks. The previous two years she played for Maryland Juniors. She ranks at number 15 in our class of 2028. She can do it all, whether it is creating offense, serve receive or playing defense. When her top spin is on it is very difficult to return. Last year the Metro 15 won the Junior Nationals National Division. [player_tooltip player_id='536719' first='Katherine' last='Mitchell'] was voted the MVP. She also plays for Richard Montgomery, leading the team in kills and aces while also finishing third in digs and blocks. Unfortunately Richard Montgomery fell short of acheiving their third consecutive championship. She stands 6'1" with an approach jump just over 10 feet. The accolades she received last year are just too numerous to mention, including an invite to the National Team Player Development (NTDP). She plays for St. Andrews Episcopal, where she earned a spot on the first team of the ISL after leading her team in kills. While they struggled during the regular season they turned it on in the playoffs, making it to the finals where they finally lost to Georgetown Day. Listed at 5'11" she brings the athleticism where her approach jump falls just short of 10 feet. Wait until next year. Because she plays a solid six rotations RVC plays her on the left side. When in the front row she moves to various locations along the net to create her offense, including delivering back row attacks. As a class of 2027 she has yet to commit. For Thomas Jefferson she led the team in aces. Until this year she had set for the Paramount second team. At 5'8" she is a bit undersized for a front row player, but there is the possibility of growth. She attended our exposure tour and fell just short of winning a top performer. When I watched her play at Volley by the James she impressed with her vertical. For high school she played for Colonial Forge, which fell short of making the state playoffs, losing to Colgan in five in a regional match. With seven players ranked in the top 50 that is more than any other National team, even when all the players are combined. Most of those players came from the talented Maryland Juniors 14 team last year, however a couple players came from MVSA, Virginia Elite and BAVA.   [player_tooltip player_id='749642' first='Sophia' last='Groshek'] outside - She won the MVP award for our Prep Dig showcase this past summer in Rockville. That was the first time we issued an MVP award. She started as a frosh for Annapolis Christian Academy, finishing third in kills as she hit from the right side. At 6'0" she brings pretty good height to the right side, which allowed her to finish second on the team in blocking. Because the team ran a modified 5/1 she stayed in the back row to play defense while also creating offense. If she can improve her approach jump she will be a terror in the front row. Sophia ranks at number 5 in our class of 2029. She also made the MaxPreps frosh All America team. If all those awards were not exciting enough, she also received an invite to the National Team Development Program (NTDP) where she worked with the National team coaches on her technique. Like [player_tooltip player_id='536719' first='Katherine' last='Mitchell'], she is high in the spot light. She has transformed her swing from stiff and mechanical to smooth and whiplike. All it takes is repetitions to get those motors working. At a local open tournament her swings were unstoppable. Elliot earned a top performer award at the Exposure tour in Richmond. She brings that 6'1 height and long whip like arm extension at you. More times than not the ball will find the floor. It will be interesting to see how she fares against the length of the Metro blocks. With both Metro teams and Paramount playing in the Charm City Classic this will be a place to find talent. For the classes of 2028 and 2029 over 60 percent of players ranked in the top 50 will be participating in this event. For the classes of 2026 and 2027 there are still some talented uncommitted players ranked in our top 50.
